Tourists We have received several emails form tourists who are saddened and disturbed by the state of animal welfare in Egypt. This section provides some ways in which you can help. Please note that your safety is of the utmost importance: please do not place yourself under any jeopardy or danger. Assess the situation, and don’t act spontaneously. Egyptian Animal Rights Legislation Know our laws. Though they are minimal, they are still effective. Read the laws here. Your Tour Package Should your tour package include hansom-cab rides, or horse-back or camel riding in places such as the Pyramids, the Sinai etc, please ask your travel agency or tour operator to check with the establishment if their animals are well-looked after and treated humanely. We believe that should this message of proper animal welfare be spread across to all these establishments, the owners will begin to care more for their animals so as not to lose business. Touristic Places: Equines and Livestock Should you arrive at a destination, and find that the animals are not looked after: 1. Please refuse to patronize that particular place. Explain to your tour guide that you refuse to ride the animals because they are badly looked after. 2. Note the date, time and place of an establishment where animals are being treated cruelly. If possible, take photos. Please email us the information, and we will contact them. You can also post the information on our website. Download and print The Egyptian Animal Rights Legislation. This document includes English, French, German, Russian, Italian and Spanish translations. Show this document to the owners of the establishment, and let them know that what they are doing to their animals is effectively against the law. 4. Contact us 5. Contact the Tourism Police.
