Adoption of S.P.A.R.E. pets
For the sake of the animals as well as for saving costs we prefer our pets to be adopted in Egypt, but unfortunately due to lack of demand within Egypt we are forced to also place a part of our animals abroad (mostly EU).
Policies for domestic adoption and adoption abroad:
Applicants must be the planned owner and primary caretaker of the animal. Third party adoptions are not allowed.
S.P.A.R.E. reserves the right to reject prospective pet owners upon the grounds that the S.P.A.R.E. team does not see that the prospective owner is fit. We kindly ask you for your understanding and hope that you trust our judgement.
Some animals are not suited for life outside the S.P.A.R.E. shelter for health or behavioural reasons and therefore not for adoption. We also kindly ask for your understanding.
All animals adopted out from S.P.A.R.E. will be accepted back.
Adoptions in Egypt:
No animal will be adopted on the first visit.
If you are living in Egypt and considering adopting a pet from us, we kindly ask all members of your household (including any other pets you may currently own) to come to the shelter prior to the application being finalized in order to maximize the success of adoption.
All animals adopted out from S.P.A.R.E. are sterilized/neutered/spayed, fully vaccinated and treated against parasites.
Pets adopted in Egypt may or may not be microchipped, depending on the wish of the local owner, and if the pet has already been microchipped.
S.P.A.R.E. is financed solely by donations and the few returns of for example adoptions. Therefore our financial situation is not the best and we have to ask for a small adoption fee. This adoption fee is far from covering the costs, which each animal causes us, but at least a part of the costs are covered. However, if the prospective owner cannot afford to pay the fee, S.P.A.R.E. will give the animal for free, and ask the owner for a small donation.
EU-Adoptions:
EU-regulations for pets to enter the EU from third countries:
• Microchip
• Valid rabies vaccine
• Passed rabies antibody test from a qualified EU laboratory
• EU third country certificate from a public vet of country of origin
EU-Adoption: Which critea do aur animals fill, when you get them:
• Regular health checks by a vet
• Fully vaccinated
• Valid certificate of vaccination
• Treated against parasites (at arrival and then every 3 months, but we nevertheless recommend to treat them again upon arrival because we cannot guarantee that they are free of parasites)
• Microchiped
• Spayed/neutered/sterilized
• EU third country certificate from a public vet of country of origin
EU-Adoption: When the pet can come to me:
• In case the animal is not yet ready to travel:
In this case the duration till it is allowed to enter the EU is as stated in the animals profile or up to 4 months respectively.
Why up to 4 months? We have to respect the EU-regulations. According to these regulations animals need to be rabies vaccinated, earliest 30 days later a blood sample needs to be taken and tested on rabies antibodies by a qualified EU laboratory. Earliest 3 months after the date of taking the blood sample the animal is allowed to enter the EU. Therefore it takes from the day of vaccine till being allowed to enter the EU 4 months all in all. Therefore it takes depending on when the pet was vaccinated up to 4 months till it is ready to travel. All other preparations for travel only take a few days and in case, if not done yet, can be done while this time.
Attention: Animals are only allowed to be vaccinated earliest at the age of 12 weeks. Therefore animals can only enter the EU starting from the age of 7 months.
• In case the animal is already ready to travel:
In this case the pet could already enter the EU within 1-3 days (preconditioned that there is also directly a flight), because because nearly all preparations have already been done. Solely the EU third country certificate still needs to be done prior to travel in that case, which takes about 1-3 days, but always is only done when the date of flight is known because it is only valid for 1 month.
EU-Adoption: Check before and after:
If we have the possibility, then we would like to get to know the prospective owner and home of our pets, because we would like to ensure ourselves that the pets will be in a good home! Therefore it is possible that an appointment is made with you for a check before arrival of the pet in order to see the prospective home and get to know you a bit. Also after arrival we would like to know how our animals are doing. Therefore it is possible that an appointment is made with you for a check after arrival, where someone passes by to see about the wellbeing of the pet.
Cost of EU Adoptions:
S.P.A.R.E. is financed solely by donations and the few returns of for example adoptions. Therefore our financial situation is not the best and we have to ask, especially at adoptions abroad, which cause us high costs, for a higher adoption fee. This adoption fee is far from covering the costs, which each animal causes us, but at least a part of the costs are covered.
How much you need to pay exactly?
We would be happy, if it would be possible for you to pay us at least the following adoption fee (flight, transport box, all inclusive):
For a dog: 200 €
For a cat: 150 €
Further donations are welcome!
As a comparison: a sterilization in Germany for a male dog costs about 150-200 € and for a female dog between 300-400 €, a blood test for Mediterranean diseases costs in Germany 95 € etc.
EU-Adoption: What you need to do:
In principal you only need to do 4 things:
• Do not miss appointments for check before and after
• Fill the adoption contract, sign it and return it
• Pay the adoption fee and, if you would like to, also a donation via Paypal or maybe also via bank transfer before we book the flight for the animal
• Pick up the animal on the agreed day
Fostering:
S.P.A.R.E. is unfortunately not able to pay any expenses for fostered animals.
We may provide required traveling arrangement services (blood test, microchipping, etc.) for a fee, to be agreed upon with the foster parent.
This forum is simply a service offered by S.P.A.R.E to help animal rescuers find homes for pets.
